Divorcing Families

Whether a family is thriving, struggling, separating, or divorcing, here at Phoenix Process Consultants, we believe one thing:

There is always only one family system - and it must be honored and respected.

Since 1998, we have worked with divorcing couples and families. As couples go through the divorce process, we help them:

  • Make sense of the pain they feel and move toward closure of the marriage.
  • Realize that they must learn to parent together for the sake of the security and growth of their children.
  • Cooperate so the integrity of "the family system" is maintained.
  • Understand and establish an equality of expressing the parental role as it relates to nurture and discipline.
  • Re-establish the parental role in the case of a parent who either has not had a strong role, or has a conflict with the former spouse and children.
  • Build a parental "primacy" in order to keep the parenting unified. ("We will be parents to our kids the rest of our lives.")

Systemic Team Therapy

In highly conflicted families we often find:

  • Individual family members struggling with their own anger, hurt and frustration
  • These individuals are often unable to see past their own issues in order to manage the conflicts with others.

Two therapists working as a team with the family may be recommended in these situations. These therapists bring the essential spousal, familial, and child relationships together in one setting, to effectively treat the system as a whole.

We have implemented this model successfully in cases where reunification of a child with a parent is needed. We have also used this in cases where reunification is not possible and the parties would benefit from facilitated closure to the relationship. In all our cases we emphasize safety and operate from clear goals and objectives for the work.

parenting consultingParenting Consulting

Here at Phoenix Process Consultants, we offer Parenting Consulting for those that need help resolving co-parenting issues. Parenting Consultants do not provide therapeutic services. While they use therapy skills, they are empowered by the court to be the arbiter of parenting decisions. At Phoenix Process Consultants, our Parenting Consultants carefully assess these often complex cases, and make timely decisions in the best interest of the family.

These services require a signed Parenting Consultant Agreement and a court order that clearly orders us the authority to act as Parenting Consultant. Our Parenting Consultants are sensitive to the pain, anger and suffering that these cases present and treat all parties with respect and dignity.

Reunification Therapy

Reunification is the re-establishing of the parental relationship. It is a systemic and not an individual process. Reunification therapy is a five phase process, including meetings between parents and guardians, in-home counseling, and checkpoints during the first year.
